We have introduced our tailoring project to offer the possibility to some youth in Kalungami to learn how to make clothes, so that through these skills they will have a possibility to start something for themselves. Our tailoring school is opposite the land where our piggery project is situated.
Veronica, one of our former students of the tailoring project, is leading the tailoring lessons given to the new students at the moment. Around 10 students gather five times a week to learn how to sow so that they can do repair, but also learn how to make new clothes, shoes, and bags. Also they regularly make children clothes which are handed out in Kalungami. Every Wednesday we organize a Bible study, counselling or guidance session. These sessions help the students to grow both spiritually and mentally. We also provide advice regarding running a business and customer care amongst other things. When they have been learning for a while, those items that they have created can be sold, so that they can generate income and start building on their future. And eventually, we of course hope that they have learned so much so that they can start their own business independently. A number of the girls from the first group have now received their first orders and are thus building their future. We hope it will also provide opportunities for the new students.
We are still looking for more monthly donors for this project. By receiving a fixed amount every month, we can make sure that there are always enough materials for the students to work with. Do you want to help us? Then you can contact us.
